Virginia Crespo earns specialist status

Achieving the status of board-certified specialist in veterinary neurology is a goal Virginia Crespo has been pursuing since she was a vet student

A leading animal hospital in Wiltshire is celebrating the success of one of its top clinicians who has just passed her European Diploma exams to become an EBVS European Specialist in veterinary neurology. Virginia Crespo joined Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, which is based in Swindon and part of Linnaeus in August 2020 as a member of the hospital’s neurology team.

To pass the diploma exam successfully, candidates undergo extensive, well-defined training in small and large animal neurology and neurosurgery and must pass a series of in-depth examinations. For Virginia Crespo, achieving the status of board-certified specialist in veterinary neurology is a goal she has been pursuing since she was a vet student.

She explains: “I am over the moon to have passed my exams and achieve this specialist status. It feels like crossing the finish line after many years of hard work.

“This success is in part down to the support of my colleagues at Eastcott over the last 18 months. I look forward to bringing my expertise into practice and sharing my knowledge with my colleagues moving forward.”

Duncan Barnes, clinical director at Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and a well-deserved reward for all Virginia’s hard work and dedication. Since joining us, she has played a key role in establishing and growing the neurology department at our hospital.

“The journey to become a specialist is long and hard, and to achieve this whilst working in practice, with a varied and challenging caseload, giving 100 percent every day to her patients and clients, is truly outstanding.

“We are all delighted for Virginia Crespo and could not be happier for her fantastic achievement!”

Eastcott offers expert care in cardiology, dentistry, internal medicine, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oncology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, laparoscopy, neurology, diagnostic imaging, CT and MRI, anaesthesia and analgesia, and emergency and critical care.
