Rachel Smithson new Animalcare UK general manager

Rachel Smithson has been appointed as the new general manager at Animalcare UK

Animalcare UK has appointed Rachel Smithson, MRCVS, as its new general manager, with a brief to continue to develop its product portfolio in key therapy areas and in growing market segments.

Rachel Smithson worked in veterinary practice before moving into industry. During her 15 years in industry, she has gained experience in a range of technical, marketing, and management roles in companion animal pharmaceuticals. She joined the Animalcare group’s commercial team as group marketing manager in 2019, where she focused on new product development and launches.

Animalcare launched the novel product – Daxocox in 2021, the first and only weekly oral NSAID for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis (or degenerative joint disease) in dogs. The year 2022 sees the launch of a new home dental care range, which includes Plaqtiv+ Water Additive, the first water additive in Europe to achieve coveted veterinary oral health council approval.

Commenting on her new role, Smithson said: “This is a great opportunity to be working with and leading the UK team at an exciting time for Animalcare with new product launches strengthening our product portfolio.”

Bernhard Putz, regional director for North Europe at Animalcare, added: “Rachel’s veterinary background gives her a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing her colleagues in practice, as well as what they look for in an industry partner. Her veterinary experience is complemented by her expertise in product marketing and her deep understanding of Animalcare.

“At Animalcare we are committed to developing our people and Rachel’s appointment is the latest example of this.  We are delighted to welcome her to this role and look forward to supporting her in taking Animalcare UK to even greater heights.”
