Yesterday, global CPD provider Improve International collaborated with Channel 4’s star of “The Dog House”, Woodgreen Pets Charity, in a unique CPR training course for the entire veterinary team in Cambridgeshire.
To support the charity, Emily Thomas, BA, VetMB, DACVECC, DECVECC, MRCVS, a speaker from Improve International and her colleagues from Dick White Referrals, donated their time to train the staff in essential CPR, based on the “Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation Initiative” (RECOVER) principles.
To consolidate this training, two vet nurses from Woodgreen Pets Charity will also attend Improve International’s training programme, Save a Life Today: CPR in association with RECOVER later in the year.
Emily is lead instructor on these courses which result in RECOVER Basic and Advanced Life Support certification for attendees.
Improve International is a global provider of postgraduate training to veterinary professionals and is dedicated to developing careers, improving practice performance and driving veterinary education forwards.
Woodgreen Pets Charity consists of a dedicated team who work tirelessly to provide safe shelter, specialist care and a brighter future for thousands of pets. Part of this includes the surgery department working on getting all the Wood Green rescue animals to their full health to be available for rehoming to their forever homes.
The RECOVER initiative aims to develop and disseminate evidence-based veterinary CPR guidelines and is spearheaded by a team of emergency and critical care specialists.
Emily Norton, veterinary department manager at Woodgreen Pets Charity, commented: “Our onsite veterinary surgery works as part of a wider team to facilitate the intake and rehoming of dogs, cats and smalls mammals, including poultry.
“We strive for gold standard veterinary care, of which, continued professional development in critical areas such as crash/resuscitation is of high importance.
“Improve International provide high quality group training in this area therefore for us as a team, we welcomed the opportunity for the partnership.”
Charlotte French, vet and head of business development for the UK and USA at Improve International said: “Having worked for several years as a vet at Woodgreen it was my pleasure to return to facilitate delivery of this much needed training to the team.
“The vets, nurses and paraprofessionals within the hospital deal with a wide variety of animals on a daily basis and the training focused on differing species requirements, as well as the important aspect of teamwork for successful CPR outcomes.
“At Improve International we partner with colleagues at RECOVER to deliver certification training programmes around the world, and to highlight the importance of this essential training for all vets and nurses in practice.”
