Hill’s to target burnout “crisis” with free webinar

Leading pet food brand Hill’s Pet Nutrition is to host a free webinar on workplace burnout with Director of The Mindful Vet, Stephanie Sorrell

Leading pet food brand Hill’s Pet Nutrition will host a free webinar on Wednesday 4 May aimed at tackling burnout across the veterinary profession.

Changing protocols, spikes in pandemic pets and staff shortages have seen veterinary professionals subjected to increased stress, pressure and long hours, resulting in physical and mental burnout for many.

The online talk aims to tackle the rising issue by offering advice to managers through keynote speaker Stephanie Sorrell, director of The Mindful Vet, who will provide valuable insights and tips on how to support staff, promote well-being and reduce the stigma associated with mental health in the workplace.

The webinar comes as research from the British Veterinary Association (BVA) revealed in the six months following the pandemic, 74 percent of veterinary professionals said they were “quite” or “very concerned” about burnout in the workplace. The survey also reported 67 percent of respondents considered themselves as “very” or “quite concerned” about burnout of their colleagues and managers and employees reported higher levels of concern around stress and burnout than business owners and those who are self-employed.

“Following an unprecedented two years the veterinary profession is still hugely affected by the pandemic with long working hours and limited staff leading to burnout and increased stress for many”, said Hillary Noyes, Hill’s veterinary affairs manager, UK and Republic of Ireland.

“Hill’s is dedicated to supporting our colleagues across the industry, offering accessible resources to vets, nurses and students alike. We hope this webinar will raise awareness of this prevalent issue, highlight the importance of burnout awareness and produce valuable insights into recognising the early signs, so that practices are equipped to tackle the crisis.”
