The latest addition to the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) Manual series is a pragmatic new manual, written for the whole practice team: the Manual of Practical Veterinary Welfare.
It provides concise practical information on assessing and maintaining the highest standards of welfare in all veterinary environments.
Written by a team of experts from a range of disciplines, under the editorial direction of Matthew Rendle and Jo Hinde-Megarity, the Manual of Practical Veterinary Welfare is relevant to all veterinary professionals and animal carers, as well as those studying animal welfare and behaviour.
The book takes a holistic approach to animal health and also takes into consideration the welfare of the veterinary team.
Dr Sean Wensley, chair of the Animal Welfare Working Group, Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, says “Implementing animal welfare policies and activities in a range of settings […] can improve patient welfare, client satisfaction, staff morale, staff health and safety and professional reputation.
“This valuable book will make a significant contribution to helping ensure all of these benefits are realised.”
The Manual of Practical Veterinary Welfare covers a wide range of species, including cats, dogs, exotic companion and zoo animals, integrating ethics and theory with quantifiable measurement of welfare and evidence-based practical solutions.
The manual also contains a series of forms to help with admissions and behaviour consultations, which are available to download and print from the BSAVA Library.
Print copies of the BSAVA Manual of Practical Veterinary Welfare are available to purchase through the BSAVA Store (£90; £58.50 for BSAVA members).
