Wear Referrals appoints Chiara Giannasi as head of internal medicine

Wear Referrals has appointed European specialist Chiara Giannasi as head of internal medicine

Wear Referrals, one of the UK’s leading small animal hospitals, has appointed European specialist Chiara Giannasi as head of internal medicine.

An EBVS specialist in small animal internal medicine, Chiara has been with the Linnaeus-owned referral centre, in Bradbury, County Durham, since 2018 and now takes on a senior management role.

Wear clinical director Ben Harris said he was delighted Chiara had taken up the post and believes she will help the hospital deliver an even higher standard of care and treatment.

Ben said: “This is terrific news. It’s a fantastic appointment for Wear Referrals and a fabulous opportunity for Chiara. I’m looking forward to working with her closely in her new post and excited about what we can achieve here to further enhance and extend the high-quality care we offer.”

Chiara added: “I’m thrilled to be taking on this new challenge and I’m eager to try and make a real difference in this new role at Wear. I’m really inspired by the opportunity to make even more of a contribution to the care we offer our patients and clients.”

Chiara graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2011 and completed a rotating internship in Glasgow, before becoming a senior emergency veterinarian. She completed her specialist training in internal medicine through a three-year internal medicine residency programme at Dick White Referrals, Cambridgeshire, which was recently acquired by Linnaeus.

Following her residency, she worked for more than two years at another Linnaeus practice, Cave Veterinary Specialists, in Somerset, as a clinician in internal medicine, before swapping the south of England for north and the team at Wear.

Chiara’s particular interests include pancreatitis and all aspects of emergency medicine. She has published journal articles and lectured nationally and internationally on various aspects of internal medicine.

Wear specialises in providing expert multidisciplinary care, including oncology, neurology, orthopaedics, soft tissue, internal medicine, cardiology, intensive care and diagnostic imaging.
