Hill’s pet nutrition introduces new, clinically proven GI ActiveBiome+ technology to prescription diet range

Hill’s Prescription Diet ActivBiome+ technology is the result of four years of scientific research and 10 years of microbiome health studies

Hill’s Pet Nutrition has announced the introduction of its pioneering new ActivBiome+ technology to its Prescription Diet Digestive and Sensitivities diets – a unique blend of prebiotics which rapidly nourishes pets’ unique gut microbiome to tackle gastrointestinal issues in both cats and dogs.

With diarrhoea, vomiting and constipation the top three pet health conditions searched online and GI issues among the most common problems veterinarians see, the new fibre blend has been developed following four years of research and more than 10,000 microbiome samples.

The technology follows a simple four-step process (release, balance, promote and nourish) that revolutionises the use of microbiome nutrition, the brainchild of the Hill’s microbiome research programme and Global Pet Nutrition Research Centre.

With a long list of potential triggers for gastrointestinal problems, they can be difficult to diagnose and treat, often resulting in prolonged pain for the pet and distress for the owner. ActivBiome+ is formulated with optimal levels of proprietary prebiotics for ultimate digestive health and wellbeing, helping veterinarians release gut nourishing compounds to support digestive health and overall wellbeing whilst supporting beneficial gut bacteria for a healthy gut microbiome balance. It will be available across Hill’s Prescription Diet i/d and z/d ranges, available in both dry and wet varieties.

Michael Unsworth, Hill’s Vet Affairs Manager, UK and Republic of Ireland said: “Supporting patients with GI issues can be extremely challenging, and clients generally want a quick resolution to their pet’s problem, which isn’t always possible. GI disorders can lead to dehydration, acid-base and electrolyte imbalances and malnutrition, so it’s crucial that animals with any GI condition are supported to help eliminate the recurrence of GI upsets.

“Our new Prescription Diet ActivBiome+ technology is truly a ground-breaking product; the result of years of trials and clinical studies that has seen results in as little as 24 hours. There is nothing else on the market like this right now, and we’re thrilled to introduce this innovative, life-changing product to the benefit of cats and dogs, their owners – and of course veterinary professionals – everywhere.”
