World Organisation for Animal Health – equine influenza vaccine recommendations announced

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Expert Surveillance Panel (ESP) meets every year to review the previous year’s global data on equine influenza outbreaks and the most recent meeting was in April 2019

The conclusions from this meeting are that, although there has been an increase in equine influenza activity in 2018/19, the recommendations on equine influenza vaccine composition have remained unchanged. It is still recommended that all equine influenza vaccines should contain both clade 1 and clade 2 viruses of the Florida sublineage. As it stands, ProteqFlu remains the only vaccine in the UK and Ireland that is updated in line with the OIE recommendations.

Equine Flu shows no sign of slowing down. June had the highest number of confirmed cases since the outbreak began.
