Dogs Trust call for 2019 research funding applications

12 April deadline for this year’s Dogs Trust Canine Welfare Grant applications

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, is making a final call for applications for 2019 from researchers seeking funding for research projects which positively impact dog welfare. The deadline is 12 April 2019.

As well as striving to provide the best possible welfare for the dogs in its own care, Dogs Trust also invests in funding research that aims to improve the welfare of dogs for generations to come through its annual Canine Welfare Grants (CWG) programme.

Paula Boyden, Dogs Trust Veterinary Director, says:

“The projects, whilst focusing at all times on dog welfare, can cover a very wide spectrum. In the past research has looked into areas such as glaucoma and the genetics which make some dogs overweight. The applications go through a rigorous two stage process. Projects generally last between one and three years duration.”

When applying for a grant Dogs Trust asks applicants to focus on one of the following areas:

  • The genetic basis of disease or reduced welfare in dogs
  • Canine behaviour
  • Healthy ageing in dogs
  • Epidemiology of disease
  • The welfare of dogs suffering from chronic disease

Dogs Trust does not support any studies that require a Home Office licence for the use of animals in scientific research.

Anyone interested in applying for funding this year or for future years, or to receive a copy of the terms and conditions, please email cwg@dogstrust.org.uk . Preliminary applications will be reviewed and short-listed applicants will be invited to submit a full application by the 4 August 2019.
