World congress in Brazil

THIS year’s 11th Congress of the World Equine Veterinary Association (WEVA) will be hosted by the Brazilian Association of Equine Veterinarians (ABRAVEQ) and the Brazilian Confederation of Equestrian Sports (CBH).

The event is to be held in Guarujá, Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 24th to 27th September. Over 1,000 veterinary delegates from around the world are expected to attend and will be able to choose lectures from a diverse programme, with themes such as reproduction, infectious diseases, lameness, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, stem cell therapy, prepurchase examinations, neurology, internal medicine, colic, pre-purchase exams and problems in western horses.

Dr Tim Greet, a past chairman of both the BVA and BEVA and currently junior vice-president of the WEVA, is a member of the organising committee, which is chaired by David Hodgson. The other members are: Vinzenz Gerber (Switzerland), Mohammed Bakkoury (Morocco), Ekaterina Zabegina (Russia), Neimar Roncati (Brazil), Ravi Reddy (India) and Kate Savage (Australia).

Dr Greet and Dr Derek Knottenbelt from the Liverpool veterinary school are listed among the speakers.

The official language of the congress is English. The congress venue is the Casa Grande Hotel and Resort, a five-star member of the Leading Hotels of the World group ( The hotel is close to the white sand beach of Enseada overlooking the South Atlantic Ocean. Guarujá is a short trip away from the famed Mata Atlântica (Atlantic forest).
