Placement of a thoracic drain trocar

We are going to demonstrate how to place a thoracic drain trocar in a dog. After advancing the tube and trocar subcutaneously to the 7^th or 8^th intercostal space, the tip of the trocar is seated vertically between the ribs. Subsequently, grasp the tube firmly with the non-dominant hand about two centimeters from the body wall firmly and drive the tube into thorax.
