A message to our learning community After much consideration, we’ve made the decision to close the Improve Veterinary Practice platform on 13 January 2026. Improve Veterinary Practice was built to support vets and nurses at every stage of their career, and while this chapter is ending, a new one is starting at Improve Veterinary Education. Aina Pahomova

Aina Pahomova, BSc (Hons), has a bio-veterinary science degree from Hartpury University (UWE) and is a student member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC). (Please note that Student Members of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors do not undertake their own behaviour cases.) She is a student veterinary nurse at Coleg Gwent, Wales, and a co-founder of the Latvian Society of Feline Medicine (LSFM), which is a national partner of the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM). Aina is an international researcher in animal welfare and behaviour, currently conducting local research about the welfare of cats in shelter conditions and research work about bacterial infections in domestic guinea pigs. Aina has managed an emergency veterinary support chat to aid pet guardians affected by the war in Ukraine.
