During National Microchipping Month, identichip is running a pet protection waiting room/window display competition.
This aims to encourage veterinary professionals to highlight the pet protection journey, from microchipping through to registering the microchip, changing contact details as and when required, and the important role of subscription services in supporting owners should their pet go missing.
Veterinary practices are being urged to include information on the new cat microchipping legislation in their waiting room/window displays to help raise awareness of the new regulations which come into force on 10 June 2024.
Practices that wish to take part in the competition should post pictures of their waiting room/window display on Facebook during June with the hashtag #MyNMMDisplay and tag @identibase, identichip’s associated database.
The winning practice will win a luxury hamper from Yorkshire’s Finest Hampers.
To further support vet practices during National Microchipping Month, identichip has launched a social media toolkit which can be downloaded on the website.
The toolkit promotes the importance of pet protection, consisting of a series of social media posts and images for practices to use on their social media channels.
identichip will also have offers on their range of microchips throughout June.
The PDSA Animal Wellbeing (PAW) Report data 20232 revealed that 90 percent of dogs, 75 percent of owned cats and 20 percent of rabbits were microchipped.
As well as educating keepers about the legalities of microchipping, it is important that practices communicate the registration process and crucially always keeping contact details up to date, however the PAW Report found that 60 percent of veterinary professionals had experienced owners’ details not being up to date on microchip databases.
Tammie O’Leary, commercial lead at identichip comments: “While it is soon to be law that both owned cats and dogs are microchipped, it is also important that pet owners are aware of the whole pet protection journey, which includes changing contact details as and when required.
“Our support during National Microchipping Month will provide vet practices with the opportunity to raise awareness of all aspects of pet protection and its role in reuniting pets with their owners should their pet go missing.”
