Dechra hosts exclusive CPD sessions at LVS

Dechra is hosting a series of companion animal continuing professional development sessions at the 2023 London Vet Show

Dechra is hosting an exclusive series of companion animal continuing professional development (CPD) sessions at the London Vet Show (LVS) on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 November 2023, featuring leading veterinary specialists.

Dechra’s CPD sessions will include a round table panel discussion on the Thursday and Friday covering “Feline enthusiasts assemble! How to help senior cats retain their superpowers”, which will see Dechra join forces with leading experts from the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) and Vets Now Referrals to discuss why senior cat health checks are worthwhile to practices, owners and felines.

Led by Geoff Duncan, veterinary technical advisor at Dechra, the panelists will include Natalie Dowgray, head of ISFM; Sam Taylor, head of veterinary specialists at ISFM; Vicky Halls, head of unowned cats at ISFM; and Marge Chandler, clinical nutritionist at Vets Now Referrals.

They will discuss the type of behavioural indications that a senior cat may present with, support for a stress-free visit and how practices can get the most out of these visits including the how and why of body condition score (BCS), muscle condition score (MCS), the frailty scale and best practice nutritional guidance.

The hour-long sessions take place at 9.10am in Gallery Suite 22 on Thursday 16 November 2023 and 1.45pm in Gallery Room 17 on Friday 17 November 2023.

On Friday, Katarina Varjonen, lecturer at the University of Edinburgh Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and board member of the European Society of Veterinary Dermatology will host an hour-long session on “Nordic voices on antibiotics in otitis externa; a call for responsibility”.

The session will address the challenges associated with antibiotic usage in the management of otitis externa and discuss the importance of embracing the Nordic model to help significantly cut down on antibiotic usage in the UK.

It takes place at 10.10am on Friday 17 November 2023 in Gallery Room 17.

The CPD sessions are first come, first served, and are expected to be well attended, so please get there early!

Dechra will also be sponsoring one of the main CPD programme sessions at LVS: “Why are the majority of dogs with Cushing’s disease poorly managed? Insights from team RVC”.

Taking place in RVC Clinical Theatre 2 at 10.35am on Friday 17 November 2023, the session will feature input from Dr Joe Fenn, senior lecturer in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery at the RVC; Professor David Church, deputy principal and professor of small animal studies at the RVC; and Dr Christopher Scudder, senior lecturer at the RVC.

During LVS, visitors to Dechra’s stand (stand J25) will be able to experience a moment of calm between sessions by embracing the zen in Dechra’s relaxation zone and learning about the company’s zennovation in sedation Zenalpha.

They will be able to take a break from the hustle and bustle of LVS by enjoying some candy floss and will be given the opportunity to win one of two Virgin Experience Days £250 gift cards in a prize draw.

The Dechra team will also be welcoming visitors to the stand between 4.00pm and 6.00pm on Thursday 16 November 2023 for happy hour cocktails.
