Calmex: an innovative in-car diffuser to support animal behaviour

Global animal nutraceutical expert, VetPlus, has launched an innovative new “On The Move” car diffuser to support vets in managing anxiety in cats and dogs when travelling

VetPlus, creators of Calmex, has been leading the development of nutraceuticals in the UK veterinary profession for more than 25 years, with over 3,000 veterinary practices across the country recommending its products.

The “On The Move” travel fragrance is part of VetPlus’ Calmex range and combines a unique blend of three essential oils – rose, lavender, and chamomile – which provide stress relieving benefits during car journeys.

It complements other products in the Calmex range, which include a plug-in diffuser for the home that contains the same blend of essential oils, as well as two nutraceuticals, a palatable tablet for dogs and a liquid formulation for cats.

Together, they are designed to be used in a multimodal approach to help support good animal behaviour and tackle short and long-term anxiety in cats and dogs.

Jackie Marshall, technical advisor at VetPlus, said: “We’re committed to developing products and solutions that allow vets to give their clients the best management options possible to ensure that pets are happy and healthy all year round.

“Combining the new in-car diffuser with the Calmex supplement and plug-in diffuser can be highly effective at supporting animals affected by many causes of stress, including loud noises, separation related anxiety, car travel and environmental change.

“This gives vets the ability to recommend a truly multimodal approach to help animals cope better with stressful situations both in the home and on the move.

“The products can be used all year round to offer calming support for potentially distressing situations such as visits to the groomer, training and visits to the vet, as well as in the lead up to potentially stressful or busy events like Christmas or New Year’s Eve.”

VetPlus has also worked with behaviourists to develop a free behavioural app called Plasid.

Users of Calmex are able to access all the premium features of the app by scanning the QR code on the product packaging.

These features include tracking tools, videos from behaviourists and calming music to help stressed pets.

Jackie added: “We also know how important behavioural training is to help animals experiencing stress which is where Plasid can help to provide additional support from behaviourists.”

The full range is now in stock and available from veterinary wholesalers.
