Improve International launches new ISVPS accredited Medical Nursing programme

Improve International have launched a new ISVPS accredited Online Learning programme in Medical Nursing to support veterinary nurses and technicians in keeping up with clinical advances

To support veterinary nurses and technicians in keeping up with clinical advances, global veterinary education specialist Improve International has launched an online version of its face-to-face Medical Nursing programme.

The Medical Nursing course will enhance the clinical skills and increase the confidence of learners and offers the opportunity to achieve a Nurse Certificate (NCert), Veterinary Technician (VTCert) or Veterinary Paraprofessional Certificate (VPPCert) from the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS).

The online programme will commence in July 2022 and comprises eight modules covering key topics in medical nursing, including anaesthesia, analgesia, imaging, oncology and medical pharmacology, which are delivered every other month, spread over a 12- to 18-month period.

Each module consists of four sessions delivered over one month. Sessions comprise separate lessons for learners to work through at a pace to suit them. The fourth week of the month provides reflective sessions and, during the months, when the module is not running, training in revision and study skills will be provided.

The Medical Nursing Programme tutors include globally recognised experts: Laura Jones, who holds the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing, a BSc (Hons) in Advanced Nursing and is a Member of the Academy of Internal Medicine Veterinary Technicians; Abby Caine, European and RCVS-Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging; and Owen Davies, an RCVS and American recognised Specialist in veterinary oncology.

Commenting on the launch of the online version of the Medical Nursing programme, Georgina Weston, DipRVN, NCert, (Anaesth), ISVPS Examination Coordinator and NCert Lead said: “The role of the Veterinary Nurse/Technician within the veterinary practice is diverse; the skill set and knowledge required can be different to care for each patient.

“ISVPS’ ever-expanding range of certificates for Veterinary Nurses and Technicians enables our candidates to gain an internationally recognised certificate which will acknowledge their ability to provide the highest standard of patient specific nursing care and support to the veterinary team.”

Operational Head for Improve International in the UK, Dr Charlotte French, added: “As veterinary medicine advances, so does veterinary nursing. This programme will enable veterinary nurses and technicians to continue provide the very highest standards of care to their patients and to remain abreast of the latest thinking and best practice.

“By offering an online, as well as face-to-face version, we hope to make it easier for veterinary nurses and technicians, wherever they are in practice, to learn from our expert speakers and develop the skills that will make their career even more rewarding.”

As with all of Improve International’s online learning programmes, the modules for the online Medical Nursing programme are available 24/7 and are hosted on a world-leading online learning management platform, which also includes quizzes and a discussion forum.

A dedicated Programme Coordinator provides support and assistance to delegates.

Further details on the course are available at: the programme page on the Improve International website.
